いつもドラムを持ち歩いている。インドで購入したエレドラを。高校の時にYAMAHAのエレドラを買って、パッドが鳴らなくなるほど叩き練習した。青春は広末涼子とドラムに全てを注いだ。そのあとはROLANDのえらドラを買った。高かった。それは売ってしまった。それ以来のエレドラだ。エレドラは練習するときにいつも本物のドラムとは全く異なると思いながら練習している。上手くなったような気になってしまうから。決して上手くはなっていない。そんな外さずにヒットさせればしっかり鳴ってくれる。素晴らしいリムショットの音だ。素晴らしいキックの音だ。なんて上手いんだ、私は。違う、上手くはない。これに甘んじて思い上がると本物のドラムを前にして自分の鳴らし方の下手さに腰が抜ける。こんなに強く鳴らさないと鳴ってくれなかったっけ、、、こんなにリバウンド少なかったっけ。。色々と勘違いがもたらす代償は大きい。でも、仕方がない、今はエレドラしかない。スーツケース一つに入って、重さが３０キロくらいに収めるにはエレドラしかない。以前は本物のドラムをインドの至る所に、運んでいたりした。これを友達にも頼んで運んでもらったこともある。もう、はっきり言って、迷惑だったと思う。けどその人は運んでくれた。だから彼らが好きだ。タビイク代表の拓人さんと旅バカブロガーの拓哉さん。2人ともサンタナデリーで出会ってからの仲だ。気持がいい人たちだ。拓人さんとは前にバラナシに持って行ったときは雨で路面がぐちゃぐちゃになっていたのでデコボコ石畳のぐちゃぐちゃの道につかない様に重たいスーツケースとドラム本体が入った段ボールを担ぎながら細い道を歩いて行った。大変だったが本当にいい思い出だ。感謝してます。拓哉さんとはで、コルカタから、持ってきてもらったこともある。全セット。これも非常に迷惑な話だと思う。ほんとに感謝してます。ケンタさんにはスネアを大阪から東京まで、東京からデリーまではみなとさん、デリー、バラナシ、コルカタまではかずきさんに運んでもらった。そのあとは、ちひろさんにプリーまで運んでもらった。ODISHA JAPAN FESTIVALで使ったスピーカーはモーモールルギャバンの方々に日本から。本当に有り難いです。そんな楽器たちだから、プリーで大事にメンテナンスしてずっと使えるように、ライブ後は綺麗に磨いてしまっている。楽器は大事だ。そういえば先日チェンナイまでの電車で居合わせた家族と仲良くなった事があった。その家族は両親と、その子供息子と娘、そして親戚の子供、男の子二人を連れた計６人の家族だった。その両親はキリスト教でお父さんは牧師をしているそう。お母さんと娘はそのミサの時に歌を歌っているそう。その子供達も人懐っこく話をしながら楽しんでした。一番下の子のA君がドラムが好きで結婚式の時のパレードで叩くバンドで太鼓を担当しているという話になった。僕もドラマーだよ、というと興味深く話を聞いていた。インドのパレードの時のドラム隊は、そのバンドの規模にもよるが大体のバンドが５人から10人程で形成されていて大太鼓が２，３人。中太鼓がに三人、あとは金物が一人、そしてメインのスネアが３，４人程。大体、大太鼓が指揮をとって２．３分に一度ビートを大きく変える。スロービートで乗らせてたと思いきや、４小節のフィルを決めていきなり早いパターンのリズムチェンジをする。これが一定時間続くとまたフィルで元に戻る。これを繰り返しながら進む。これがカッコいいが、速くなった時のテンポが結構早い。しかもいきなり変わる。叩くスティックも、中太鼓、大太鼓は木製や、マレットだが、スネアに関してはプラスティック製の先が割けて割れているタイプのもので一度叩くとザザザといった感じで数発叩いたように聞こえる。人数がいなくても人数がいるように聞こえる仕組み。よくできている。叩き方はとにかくしならせながら叩くもんで、キレがある。一音でザザザという多音に聞こえるが点がそろっていて結構気持ちい。しかも、スティックの握り方が結構特殊でなんだかよくわからない握り方をしている。そもそもバンド自体が歩きながらと、長時間叩き続けるからそういった叩き方になったのかもしれない。それはいいとしてA君は、僕の持っていたスティックに興味津々で列車の中だけどかれに少しの時間だけでもドラムを教えることにした。彼の手はまだ小さい。おそらく８歳か９歳位だろう。K君より小さいし、英語もあまり通じない。まぁ気持ちがあれば通じるから大丈夫。彼はスティックワークの練習法と、教えた。基本はシングルストロークのチェンジアップ。そのあとは松原先生に教えて頂いた右手のグリップを変えながらの奏法。これはパレードの時に使ったら盛り上がるのではないかと思って伝えた。これにはA君も大興奮。真剣に練習し間違えたらやり直し、修正、そして再挑戦。この繰り返しで、お父さんも初めは彼がいつもひょうきんな顔おしていることをずっといじっていたのに、あまりにも真剣な顔で取り組むものだから、途中からお父さんがA君を見る目が変わった。これはたまらない。僕は正直お父さんが彼の事をずっといじっているのが嫌だった。これが彼らの家族の中でのコミュニケーションの取り方で、円満にいっているとも思うので僕がとやかくいう事ではないが、僕的には一人の男が（A君）が一つの事を真剣に習得しようとすることが滅茶苦茶カッコいいと思っているのでお父さんのいじりはずっと無視して、ひたすら彼と向き合った。彼もそれに答えようと真剣に取り組む。周りの乗客も食い入るように見つめていた。時折成功すると全力で褒めた。彼は喜んで笑って油断してまたミスる。次は褒めるのを少し抑えて褒めたら彼も学習したのかミスらず継続できた。面白い。そして彼は頑張った。集中している。最高に楽しい。これがドラムを教える事の醍醐味かもしれない。やめられない。真剣であればあるほどこちらにも熱が入る。正味30分ほどで彼は叩き方を覚えて、あとは継続して正確に出来るようになり、あとはテンポを上げて楽しくなるまでやる事だ。別れ際、彼に言われた。『僕たち友達？』って。僕はSHUREと答えて。手を振った。来週チェンナイでこの家族と再会する約束をしている。今から楽しみだ。彼のハートにも火をつけてしまおうか。
